The painkilling cayenne cream recipe that anyone with stiff joints or sore muscles needs to try

Today we’re going to show you a great homemade muscle soothing cream that can be prepared in just minutes. It’s made of ingredients you have in your kitchen or can be found easily. The main ingredient in the cream is cayenne.

Why cayenne works for muscle pain

Cayenne contains an active ingredient called capsaicin which releases substance “P” in the body. This substance is released from nerve and inflammatory cells of the immune system and helps the body perceive the pain and release cytokines in order to establish a healthy inflammatory response.

Cayenne also has the ability to dilate your blood vessels, which enable more anti-inflammatory cells to enter the area. Once the substance P is released and later depleted when you apply cayenne all the time, the threshold of the pain in the area decreases (a process known as pain desensitization).

In simpler terms, the pain in the area goes away, which allows you to take the necessary steps to heal that part of the body.

Beyond cayenne

The cream is rich in ingredients which will relax your muscles and even heal some of them.

Coconut oil nourishes your skin and is a great addition to the cream thanks to its antibacterial properties. It has been known to reduce pain and possesses anti-inflammatory properties as well. Raw cocoa butter is great for the skin and contains a high amount of antioxidants that are absorbed in it.

Ginger has a long history of use in folk medicine due to its powerful anti-inflammatory and warming properties. Used as a muscle rub, it can stimulate blood flow and enables new blood to move into the area, while also bringing new immune cells and pushing the old blood with inflammatory cells to the affected area. Turmeric is a spice similar to ginger – it is added in the cream to reduce the swelling and control the body inflammation. Inflammation is good for the healing process, but the area must not be chronically inflamed.

Finally, peppermint essential oil contains menthol which soothes muscle soreness and relaxes the muscles. Peppermint provides a cooling sensation in the area and works great along the warming properties of ginger.

Besides using the cream on your muscles, you should also rest, drink plenty of water and consider turmeric capsules in order to reduce the pain further. These capsules have been shown to be as effective as NSAIDs for pain reductions.

Here’s how to prepare the cream:

1 teaspoon of organic ginger

1 teaspoon of organic turmeric

2 teaspoons of cayenne powder

¼ of a cup of coconut oil

¼ of a cup of raw cocoa butter

¼ of a cup of beeswax

10 drops of peppermint oil

First, put the cocoa butter, coconut oil and beeswax in a glass container which you should put in a bigger saucepan with 2-3 inches of water. Now, bring the water to a simmer and stir the mixture while it melts completely. Add the cayenne, turmeric and ginger and stir everything well. Remove the mixture from the heat and add the peppermint oil, then pour the mixture in a jar and leave it to cool down before closing it with a lid. You can store the cream in the fridge for 6-8 weeks.

WARNING: wash your hands after applying the cream as cayenne and peppermint can cause a burning sensation.
